Your neck (cervical spine) is made up of the top seven vertebrae of your spine. A healthy neck is strong, flexible and pain free. The joints of these vertebrae are balanced and aligned in a natural curve. Your neck supports your head, protects your spinal cord and spinal nerves and allows you to move your head in a variety of ways.
Over three million nerve impulses come out of the brain every second through the spinal cord. These nerves convey dynamic energy in just the right quantities to control and coordinate the function of every organ and tissue of the body.
Neck problems range from minor muscle strain to major soft tissue damage, such as tears in muscles and ligaments. Other problems are associated with changes in the discs and vertebrae of the upper spine.
Degenerative and inflammatory diseases can cause neck pain in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Both of these major types of arthritis can cause stiffness and pain.
Most neck problems can be effectively prevented if you recognize and deal with faulty body mechanics, a stressful lifestyle and a general decline of physical fitness.
There is an alternative to taking muscle relaxers, pain pills, aspirins and other medications, which cause side effects and other long-term problems. You can heal and prevent the neck condition through a change of lifestyle, exercise and meditation.
First, you must deal with the pain you are currently experiencing. You must lie down, close your eyes and rest. You should rest as much as you can, for as long as you can. While you rest, focus on the pain in your neck. Your mind will naturally wander, however, keep refocusing on the pain. This concentration is a form of meditation. You are meditating on your body.
As you continue to concentrate on the pain, it will begin to ease up. Continue to focus on it until it goes away. You must be patient and be aware of your progress. This will help you to stay in the game and see it through. Eventually, it will go away.
During this process, you will most likely not want to eat. Your body will want to use all of its energy to repair the neck. It will not want to expend energy metabolizing food. However, if you feel hungry, eat foods cooked as little as possible, preferably raw. Raw foods are the best because they are the easiest for the body to metabolize.
Once the pain has abated, you should begin to exercise the neck. Exercise it until it is fatigued and do this every day. If you build up the muscles in the neck, you will not develop problems in that area again. As long as you continue to live healthfully and continue to keep the neck strong, you will be pain free.
However, if you go back to the same bad habits you had previously, you may experience the neck pain again. You will most likely develop other symptoms as well. In order to live healthfully, you must do intense exercise of short duration regularly, rest, meditate and eat as close to raw as possible.
The exercise is crucial to metabolizing the food. The body can easily utilize the raw food whereas the cooked food is very, very taxing on the body. The rest is unmatched in terms of refueling the body or allowing it to replenish its resources. The meditation is important because it brings you in contact with your body so that you can easily repair any part of the body by simply resting it. It also eases your mind and any emotional stress you may feel.
It is now up to you to put this advice to the test. You will not be disappointed. Believe in yourself and in the intelligence of the body!
